    Description
A statue of a woman sitting down in Greek costume, with helmet on right knee, symbolising Britain mourning her dead. Poppy held in left hand and wreath of poppies by left foot. A small winged figure of victory, holding a trumpet and palm of victory, carved on shield on right side of statue. Lion carved on left side of throne and two sphinx facing each other on the back separated by a tripod. The back corners of the chair are supported by lion's paws. Festoons decorate the base of the pedestal. The statue was originally mounted on a base with eight green slate panels inscribed with names and dedication on each side. Since it has been moved the statue now stands without the base and the panels from the base are displayed on the wall within an illuminated recess behind the statue. Inscription in gilt, lettered in Roman on sides of the pedestal.
