    • Reading Observer - Saturday 13 August 1921 CURIOUS WAR MEMORIAL NEAR OXFORD. 520 FEET ABOVE SEA. A charming and arresting memorial has been erected at Youlbury, Boar's Hill, near Oxford, a part of what has become known as tie Poet's Colony, which stands in the grounds of Sir Arthur Evans.. It is of altar shape, and of white stone, with the background created by dense luxuriant furze and woodland. A sundial is inscribed, "Count the sunny hours alone," while below one reads. "In laying memory of a youthful band who played as children amid these woods and, heaths and shared in joyous hours in the Great War for their country and for mankind. They fell before their time. But wherever they now lie, here they are never far away." The spot where the memorial is placed is about 520 feet above sea level, just below where the Berkshire Beacon used to be. It can be seen from the Vale of the White Horse,
