    Maintenance History
SOME OF THE LETTERING IS NOT CLEAR ON PHOTOGRAPH: The inscription cites that Lt. Col Carteret Thynne "fell mortally wounded" at a battle not named and represented by just the letter "S." Given that the date of death is listed as 6 November, 1917 it appears possible that the action in question could have been related to the Southern Palestine Offensive (31 Oct - 09 Dec 1917). There were attacks against a site named SHERIA on 6 - 7 November. This may have been the action in which the Lt. Col. fell.
