A pedestal has a cornice at the top and hollowed faces, each bearing a cast metal lion face. • London Daily News - Saturday 22 June 1901 "Several of those buried at Brompton lived to ages between 84 and 107, and some were born as far back as 1756. The military career of the earlier veterans commenced in 1793 while the later veterans took part as late as 1860 in the China and New Zealand wars. "
