Description: A carved wooden statue of a soldier set in the centre of a public open space encircled by Wilkinson Park Drive which is indicated by three gold-coloured roadsigns, which have a representation of the Victoria Cross on them, and the coat of arms of Wigan Borough Council. A small, heart-shaped slate dedicatory plaque sits beside the statue - this was missing in August 2023, by which time a Victoria Cross Centenary tablet had been installed in front of the statue.
Inscription: On the slate plaque formerly beside the statue (missing by August 2023): In honour of/ Alfred Wilkinson/ VC/ Born in heigh/ Award the Victoria Cross for/ outstanding bravery/ and devotion/ to duty/ during/ the First World War. On the street signs: Wilkinson Park Drive On the VC Tablet: Private/ Alfred Wilkinson/ Manchester Regiment/ 20th October 1918
