    Description
Hollow octagonal font cover with wooden base. Sides sweep up to a silver figure of a mother holding her child, representing the homes for which the men had fought. The mother is bareheaded with her hair loosely swept back in a bun. She wears an ankle-length loose fitting dress with v-shaped neck and wide sleeves pushed up to the elbow. She wears a three-quarter length clock over her dress. She looks down at the baby in her arms. The baby's right leg hangs down while the left hand is stretched up to hold onto the mother's dress. Two pairs of stout ring handles on each side to allow the lid to be lifted. Dedicatory inscription is incised around the base of the cover and the names are incised on six of the eight side panels. Two wreaths in bas relief encircle the top part of the cover. The upper wreath is of oak leaves and acorns whilst the lower wreath is of laurel leaves. Memorial was made from local materials.
