Description: Tapering granite pillar on a granite base. Also dedicated at the site was a World War One gravestone, found during building works, which honours two soldiers of the South African 1st Regiment. The memorial is both to the 28 people who were killed in an air raid shelter on this site, which took a direct hit, and to the 417 people who died throughout the city during the Blitz. Note this is a new housing estate, not yet on our computer mapping, and has not yet been allocated a postcode. Update a postcode and grid reference has been added.
