Newspaper Title: Western Mail Publication Date: Thursday 17 October 1918 Page Number: 2 HIRANO MARU DISASTER EIGHT BODIES WASHED ASHORE IN SOUTH PEMBROKE. During the past week eight bodies have washed ashore at different points on the South Pembrokeshire coast — viz., four men, a woman, and two boys, all Japanese with the exception of one lad. They were on board the Japanese vessel Hirano Maru, which was torpedoed off the Irish coast on October 4. At an inquest on six of the bodies held at Angle by the Pembrokeshire coroner only two of the bodies were identified. One was stated to be that of a steward named Shiro Okoshi, of Tokio, and the English lad the son of the Rev. J. Andrew Carleton, who was passenger on the ill-fated boat and bound for Durban.
