    • The Scotsman - Tuesday 27 September 1921 https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000540/19210927/055/0010 ABERLOUR MARKET CROSS UNVEILED BY DUKE OF RICHMOND AND GORDON. Aberlour war memorial was unveiled by the Duke of Richmond and Gordon in presence of a gathering of over 2000 drawn from all parts of Middle Strathspey. Following the laying of the foundation stone with Masonic rites, Mr J. W. H. Grant of Elchies, superior of the burgh, introduced the Duke of Richmond and Gordon, His Grace said he would not prophesy when the time would come when they could shake hands cordially with Germany, but he knew it could not be in the immediate future. That memorial would stand for all time as a record of duty nobly done, and in years to come it would be an inspiration to the coming generations. It also emphasised their feelings towards those who laid down their lives. His Grace then performed the unveiling ceremony, and Sir John R. Findlay, K. B. E. of Aberlour, thanked the Duke for his presence there that day. The memorial, which takes the form of a market cross, bears sixty-two names.
