Two adjacent manuscripts in glazed varnished wood frames, the formats identical. At the top is the dedication in Latin, surmounted by Bedford School's coat of arms with escutcheon and crest within a laurel wreath, all in full colour, and "1914-1918" in gold leaf over gesso. The body of the manuscript has the names, rank and unit in three columns, delineated by floriate borders: the initial letters of the rank and unit are rubricated. At the base of each of the columns is an escutcheon bearing heraldic symbols, reading from left (1) The three lions regardant passant of England, (2) The cross of St George, (3) The red dragon of Wales, (4) The white saltire of Scotland, (5) The harp of Ireland, (6) The red saltire of St Patrick, (7) The red dragon of Wales (8) A white bird, the significance unknown.
