Description: Elaborate multi-coloured marble memorial with gilding. Inscribed memorial tablet sitting within two maroon-coloured columns with a curving-topped pediment. Regimental insignia flanked by two shields sitting above tablet with (family?) coat of arms within the pediment.
Inscription: In Memory of / MAJOR / EUSTACE CRAWLEY / born 19th of April 1868 / killed in the great War / near Messines in Flanders / 2nd November 1914. / “Until the day breaks / & the shadows flee away” / Erected by / his devoted sister / INEZ CAVAN / & his lifelong friend / RUDOLPH / 10th EARL of CAVAN / “Very pleasant hast thou been unto me” 2 Sam’l

Daily Express - Wednesday 11 November 1914 (page 5) reported: 'MAJOR CRAWLEY KILLED, Major Eustace Crawley, of the 12th Lancers, a famous sportsman and a fine soldier, has been killed in action. He was in command of the 12th after Colonel Wormald was wounded. Major Crawley was a splendid racquets player. He learned the game at Harrow, and afterwards won many championships, including the military doubles with Captain Eastwood, of the same regiment.
