    Description
Truncated obelisk, which functions as a sundial, a curving low wall for seating, and the three steps upon which the obelisk stands. The obelisk casts a shadow that precisely follows the curve of the stone wall-seating. The obelisk is composed of fifty granite layers, each of which represents a year of freedom. Its truncated top represents five years of occupation. Inscriptions along the wall seating record (at the correct time) key events of the 9th May 1945.
    Inscription
At intervals on the seat backs are inscribed the following events: 7.15 AM / SURRENDER / ACCEPTED ON / HMS BULLDOG // 8.00 AM / LIBERATING FORCES / LANDED AT / SAINT PETER PORT // 10.15 AM / THE UNION FLAG / UNFURLED AT THE / ROYAL COURT HOUSE// Inscription along the seating: AND OUR DEAR CHANNEL ISLANDS ARE ALSO TO BE FREED TODAY.
