Nantwich Guardian - Friday 08 November 1918 (page 3) reported: 'BUERTON. Soldier’s Death In Germany. Mr. Joseph Bate, of Chapel House, Buerton, near Audlem, received information on the 30th ult. that his third son, Private J. H. Bate, of the Northumberland Fusiliers, who was taken prisoner of war March 21st, died from cardiac weakness in a prison camp in Germany July 23rd.
