    Description
Inscriptions carved and incised into the North screen wall of the St George's Chapel element of the Regimental Chapel. The names are rubricated. There are three columns of inscriptions. The two nearer the altar relate to the Battles of Meeanee and Hyderabad under Major General Napier in 1843. There is a related Memorial on the South wall of the transept (WMR 9894) on which the Other Ranks killed are commemorated only as total numbers, but no names. The Officers are named, among them Captain Tew of the Cheshires, who is also named here. The numbers of men given as killed is greater than those listed here. The first column relates mainly to deaths on the Indian - Burmese border in the Chin-Lushai Expedition of 1889 - 90. Those who died in action or of wounds are named. The inscription records the death of 227 NCOs and Men of disease, but it is not entirely clear that all died on that Expedition, in which 400 men from the Regiment took part.
