WMR Reference Number: 12096
Description: Pillar on a three step base, with an inscription on the top step. On the top step are two flanking Corinthian columns either side of a rectangular tablet bearing the 42 names and inscription. The columns support a gabled roof on which is relief carving of a cross, sword and anchor with rope.
Inscription: THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED BY THE / PARISHIONERS OF HOOK AND SOUTHBOROUGH / IN MEMORY OF THE MEN / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES FOR US /(Names)/ WHOS STANDS IF FREEDOM FALL? / WHO DIES IF ENGLAND LIVE? /1914 TO OUR GLORIOUS DEAD 1918
