    Description
    Entrance arch to Waterloo Station. Above the arch is Britannia holding the torch of liberty with figures either side. Seven cartouches with names of campaigns separated by panoply, are above the inscription. To the left of the arch above the date 1914 is the figure of Bellona, goddess of war, surrounded by four mourning figures. To the right above the date 1918 is the seated figure of Peace surrounded by five figures, including an infant. Peace is holding a small winged figure of Victory. Four name plaques are inside the arch.

    Above main entrance on cartouches: BELGIUM; ITALY;DARDANELLES; FRANCE; MESOPOTAMIA; EGYPT; NORTH SEA/ DEDICATED TO THE EMPLOYEES OF THE COMPANY WHO FELL IN THE WAR/ WATERLOO STATION. On plaques:1914 ROLL OF HONOUR 1918/ NAMES OF THE COMPANY'S EMPLOYEES/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR/ (Names)

    Maintenance History
    The wording under the inscription on the arch was formerly LONDON & SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY, presumably removed after 1923 when it was absorbed into the Southern Railway. Shrapnel damage in WW2. May 2000: Memorial cleaned by Haverstock Associates, London. Grade II listed 8 March 2002. 2004 and 2011 It is proposed to demolish and replace the adjacent Elizabeth House, which will improve the setting of the Victory Arch. 2012 - stone steps replaced and bronze hand-rails refurbished.

    • RHT supported the refurbishment of bronze balustrades and installation of new treads to Victory Arch steps: cost £18,000.
