    FOLLOWING A NEWSPAPER CAMPAIGN IN 1989 (SEE CUTTINGS) TWO PANELS OF NAMES (ONE TO THE LEFT AND ONE TO THE RIGHT) WERE ADDED TO THE PLINTH, AND RESTORATION WORK WAS STILL ON-GOING (AS SIGHTED ON 23 SEPT 2000). IN SEPTEMBER 2003 THE HEAD OF THE SAILOR WAS CUT-OFF BY VANDALS (SEE NEWSPAPER CUTTING).
