Type of Memorial: Battlefield cross or marker
WMR Reference Number: 12796
Description: A plain wooden cross . the ends pointed , appears to be reinforced at the front by an additional layer of wood . There are no markings , but marks around the crossing point which may have fixed metal markers at some point .
Inscription: There are no words on the memorial in its current state (2021) , but a local resident states that at an earlier period (date not specified ) it bore the words "Gunner Pinfold William and his service number ) . Gunner W E Pinfold of Aldworth Reading is commemorated as a WW1 casualty on a stone tablet in St Mary's Church and it is thought that the battlefield cross is his grave marker .

Maintenance History: oral evidence that original metal marker no longer exists .
