Memorial Details

Type of Memorial: Obelisk
WMR Reference Number: 200
Description: Three-stepped square base surmounted by a dual sectioned plinth and tapering obelisk. Made from blocks of Darley Dale stone. Incised inscription and names on side faces of plinth, infilled with black paint. Bronze wreaths and other designs circumnavigate above plinth level, at root of obelisk taper. The whole memorial is enclosed by a kerbed square platform with a post and chain barrier.
Inscription: 6 o'clock face, upper plinth : ERECTED WITH GRATITUDE / TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY / OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH /WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES / TO SECURE VICTORY IN / THE GREAT WAR 1914 -1918 / + + + / THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE / 6 o'clock face, lower plinth : 1939 -1945 / + + + / THEIR GLORY SHALL NOT BE BLOTTED OUT 3, 9 and 12 o'clock faces, upper plinth : (73 WW1 NAMES) / 3, 9 and 12 o'clock faces, lower plinth : (20 WW2 NAMES)
