    Description
    Gothic revival market cross with central octagonal stone column surmounted by stone closed lantern. Lantern has pitched roof and displays a relief of the Crucifixon. Column surmounts a wider octagonal stone plinth. Plinth has four projecting butresses, one from each corner. Butresses have stone tablets on each side which bear name and inscription. Butresses are also pitched at the top and terminate with a stone finial. Whole is set on a two-stepped base in a paved area and surrounded by a wall with two entrance pillars.

    Front Face: THE/ GLORY OF GOD/ AND/ IN UNDYING/ MEMORY OF/ THOSE MEN AND/ WOMEN OF THIS/ CITY WHO MADE/ THE SUPREME/ SACRIFICE/ IN THE FIRST/ AND SECOND/ WORLD WARS/ ERECTED BY/ THE CITIZENS/ OF LINCOLN/ THIS STONE WAS LAID BY/ JOHN HARRIS ESQR. J.P./ CHAIRMAN - LINCOLN WAR MEMORIAL COMMITTEE./ 5TH APRIL 1922.     2005:The memorial was restored as it had fallen into disrepair.Restoration cost £26,000. 1939-45: The surrounding railings were removed to be used to aid the war effort. At this time the pillars in the surrounding wall were reduced in height.
