Description: The Grounds and Pavilion were originally funded by Edward Lake (Managing Director) and the employees of Greene King Brewery to give thanks for those employees who survived their military service in WW1 and to the return of all six of his sons plus to remember those employees who were killed. The memorial plaque originally displayed in the Pavilion was lost but has recently been found (WMR 100506)
Inscription: THE GREAT WAR/ AUGUST 4TH 1914 NOVEMBER 11TH 1918/ FRANCE, FLANDERS, GALLIPOLI/ PALESTINE, EGYPT, MESOPOTAMIA/ SALONIKA/ THIS PAVILION AND SPORTS GROUND ARE MADE AND MAINTAINED/ BY GREENE KING AND SONS LIMITED/ AS A THANK OFFERING FOR VICTORY AND FOR THE SAFE RETURN/ OF THEIR EMPLOYEES WHOSE LIVES WERE SPARED, AND A MEMORIAL/ TO THE FOLLOWING WHO DIED FOR KING AND COUNTRY/ [NAMES] 1939 THE WORLD WAR 1945/ TO THE MEMORY OF/ THE EMPLOYEES OF GREEN KING AND SONS LTD AND THEIR/ ASSOCIATED COMPANIES WHO DIED FOR THEIR KING AND COUNTRY/ [NAMES]
