Elaborate monument in the form of pagoda supporting a bronze bell with inscriptions on the stone block that forms a base for the pagoda columns and peaked roof. A tower of Chinese design, in which is hung a Chinese bell taken from the Taku Forts. On the bell are two inscriptions: "Come pleasant weather and gentle rain; the Empire's happy at peace again." The other panels contain contain the names of the officers and men who died during the commission or who lost lives in the Chinese campaign, in all of the principal engagements of which H.M.S.
