    Description
On a rectangular light brown wooden backboard, the longer axis horizontal, is a brass plaque. At the outside edges of the plaque is a wide floriate border of leaves and acorns interwoven with rope and in each corner a square panel with crossed fouled anchors. At centre top is a square panel with the coat of arms of the Hood Family surrounded by heraldic mantling. All the decoration and lettering is incised and coloured black. The brass appears to have a reddish tinge possibly an unusually large proportion of copper.
