    • Nottingham Journal, Monday 5th May 1924 (page 5) reported: 'A HALL FOR CHILWELL. MEMORIAL TO VILLAGE’S FALLEN OPENED. The memory of the 30 natives of Chilwell who lost their lives in the war was suitably commemorated on Saturday, when the opening and dedication of a commodious Village Hall took place in the presence of practically the whole of the village. Standing on about an acre ground and facing the main Chilwell-road, the building consists of a large hall with outside balcony, billiard-room, kitchen, cloak and. dressing-rooms, whilst the grounds provide recreation with tennis courts and bowling green. A stone porch over the main entrance bears the following inscription: “In honour and to the respected memory of those of this village who made the supreme sacrifice in the war 1914 - 1918." The opening ceremony was performed by Mrs. A. Titley, and Mr. G. Hurt, C.C. who presided, was supported by the Sheriff of Nottingham (Ald. A. Judd), Ald. E. L. Manning, Mr. H. B. Betterton. M.P. for tha Rushcliffe Division, Capt. A. A. Walton, Captain G. M. Charlton, Messrs. E. Walton, G. Pearson, C. Pearson, W. E. Bickley and others. Buglers from the Robin Hoods, under Drum-major Allwood sounded the last Post and the band of the Beeston Lads' Club provided suitable music. The chairmen stated that it was entirely due to the munificence of Mr. E. A. Titley that their ambition to erect a village hall had reached fruition. In addition to giving the site Mt Titley had also come forward with two donations of £1,000 each: whilst the working committee had raised over £300 by means of various entertainments. They also owed a debt of gratitude to Mr. C. Gregory, who had been responsible for the laying out of the grounds. Mrs. Titley then performed the opening ceremony, and the Vicar of Bramcote (Rev. J. B. Fraser) gave the dedication service, and also unveiled the interior brass tablet bearing the names of the fallen. An address was given by the Rev Father Hays, and the Rev. T. B. Pope read the lesson. On the proposition of Mr. Betterton, seconded by Ald. A. Judd, Mrs. Titley was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, as was also the chairman on the call of Mr. E. Walton, seconded by Capt. Charlton. In the evening the local ex-servicemen, to the number of 150, had tea in the hall, which was followed by an enjoyable musical entertainment'. https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0001898/19240505/067/0005
