    • Lincoln Leader and County Advertiser - Saturday 03 December 1921 (page 5) reported: 'WAR MEMORIAL: LINCOLN FIRM'S DESIGN. A very chastely designed war memorial, 15 feet high, octagonal in general form, with a dark all polished green granite octagonal base, has been erected in Tuxford churchyard by the inhabitants of the town. The Memorial was dedicated by Archdeacon Hacking of the Southwell Diocese, who gave a very impressive address in the church, which was crowded to overflowing, after which the dedication ceremony took place on the site in the churchyard, which stands high above the main road to Lincoln. The Tuxford ex-service men formed a large square round the Memorial, which was unveiled by Mr. D. Walpole, Secretary of the local branch of the British Legion. The serious and memorable service ended with the sounding of the “Last Post.” The Memorial with its foundations, carved shields, elegant tapering shaft, battlemented and moulded cap and decorated Cross, was carried out entirely, by Messrs, M. Tuttell and Son, architectural sculptors, Lincoln'. https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0005272/19211203/083/0005

The faculty for the work was granted Consistory Court of the diocese of Southwell & Nottingham. The war memorial, in the churchyard of St Nicholas’s, Tuxford, is in remembrance of the men of Tuxford lost in the First World War. It was unveiled on 27 November 1921 by a member of the British Legion, and dedicated by the then Archdeacon of Newark, the Ven. Egbert Hacking. It was designed and made by H. J. Tuttell of Lincoln, and cost £163. After the Second World War, the names of five who died in that conflict were added under the heading “1939-1945”. The war memorial is Grade II listed in its own right, and St Nicholas’s is Grade I listed...'. https://www.churchtimes.co.uk/articles/2025/2-may/news/uk/individual-may-restore-first-world-war-memorial-in-churchyard
