Inscription: IN MEMORY OF PASCOE SPENCER THORNTON OF TIENTSIN NORTH CHINA, WHO DIED AT TSINGTAO 10 APRIL 1917 WHILE ENGAGED IN RECRUITING CHINESE LABOUR FOR SERVICE IN FRANCE ON BEHALF OF HIS MAJESTY'S GOVERNMENT, AGED 40, BURIED AT TSINGTAO/ ALSO LIEUT COL. GODFREY ST. LEGER THORNTON, R.F.A., D.S.O., NSERVED IN SOUTH AFRICA 1901-2, IN DIA 1903-13, IN GALLIPOLI 1915 AND IN FLANDERS 1916-17. INVALIDED HOME AND DIED AT RAMSDALE PARK. NOTTS 4 FEBRUARY 1918 AGED 36. BURIED AT NOTTINGHAM (EXACT LINE SPACING UNKNOWN)
