WMR Reference Number: 27978
Description: Cast bronze figure of the resurrected Christ portrayed as a figurehead on the bow of a ship symbolising a triumphant welcoming. Outstretched arms complete the shape of an anchor. Whole stands on a stone shelf and dedicatory plaque with inscription in relief is placed below it. Outstretched arms of the figure complete the shape of an anchor. Sword which becomes a ploughshare is to the front of the figure and attached by chains at the top.
Inscription: PLAQUE: THIS MEMORIAL TO COMMEMORATE THE SPECIAL/ RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE CITY OF SHEFFIELD/ AND SHIPS OF THE ROYAL NAVY BEARING THE CITY'S NAME/ WAS PLACED HERE ON 17TH APRIL 2000 BY/ HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS THE DUKE OF YORK CVO ADC/ IT IS A TRIBUTE TO ALL THOSE WHO SERVED IN/ THE SHIPS AND A LASTING MEMORY TO THOSE/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY
