Type of Memorial: Gate
WMR Reference Number: 3114
Description: Lychgate with a superstructure of oak on a base and roof of Lazonby sandstone. The Lychgate constitutes the memorial with the names of the fallen carved within. 14 died in WW1 and 14 died in WW2. An individual memorial on the south side is to Percy Langhorn Thompson. The names and dedication plaques are gilded on oak, on a dark crimson background. There is an accompanying book of Rememberance, which is inside the church, which is read on Rememberance Day by the Vicar. It records the same names as on the lych-gate it records the First and Second World Wars.
Inscription: (Front of gate): TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THOSE FROM THIS PARISH WHO IN THE GREAT WAR/ IN DEFENCE OF GOD, KING AND COUNTRY/ PASS THROUGH THE GRAVE AND GATE OF DEATH/ THIS GATE IS ERECTED/1914-1918 ((Plaque on right-hand side of the gate): 1914-1918 (Names) (Plaque on the left hand side, facing the front): 1914-1918 (Names) (Plaque inside the door on left-hand side):1939-1945/ (Names) (Plaque inside the door on the right-hand side):1939-1945/ (Names) On the crossbar across the middle of the lych-gate facing front it says: 1914-1918 On the back it says: 1939-1945
