Type of Memorial: Cross
WMR Reference Number: 31814
Description: Four-stepped square base surmounted by a square sectioned plinth with a square sectioned shaft tapering at the top to form an integral decorative cross. Incised inscription and names on side faces of plinth plus a further incised inscription on front face of top step. Inscriptions infilled with black enamel paint. A small brass plaque on the second from top step face, indicates restoration of the memorial during early 1995. The whole memorial is constructed using a white coloured stone.
Inscription: 6 o'clock plinth face : TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND / IN GRATEFUL AND / AFFECTIONATE MEMORY / OF THE MEN FROM WYTHAM / WHO LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES / IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914-1918 3 & 9 o'clock plinth faces : (8 NAMES) 12 o'clock plinth face : (1 NAME) 6 o'clock top step face : THEIR BODIES ARE BURIED IN PEACE / BUT THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE Plaque, 6 o'clock 2nd. from top step face : THIS MEMORIAL WAS RESTORED / BY THE PARISHIONERS OF WYTHAM / AND DEDICATED BY / THE REV. ROGER BECKWITH D.D. / TO COMMEMORATE / THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF V.E. DAY / MAY 8TH 1995
