    Maintenance History
RESTORED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION IN 1998 AT COST OF £1,000. Missing rifle carved in stone was replaced, but was broken again shortly afterwards, though the pieces were saved. Not far away is a Territorial Army base, the Territorial Army, 203 Elswick Battery Volunteers. Captain Paul Logan took it upon the unit to restore this monument in 1998 with the cost being borne by public subscription. They had some of the names redone, a cap badge replaced, and the rifle made for just the cost of materials by a local stone mason. In 2018, the memorial was cleaned and restored and the lettering on the plaques repainted. The most significant part of the restoration was the replacement of the soldier. Costs were £12,375. Substantial donations were made by the Elswick (Blyth) All Arms Association and the Freemasons of Northumberland.
