- Description
- The main, WW1, memorial tablet is a long rectangular marble tablet with a separate, segmental arched pediment above, bearing the conflict and its dates at its centre. Another length of marble, with a stepped pediment, runs along the bottom of the main tablet, which plain pilasters dividing the panels bearing the inscriptions. The pilasters are joined by a strip across the top of the name panels, with a Lancashire rose carved at each junction.
The inscriptions are incised and painted black, with gilded initial letters in the dedications. The names are divided between those who served (two outer columns on each side) and those who died (one central column).
The much smaller WW2 tablet has been placed below the centre of the main tablet, and has matching inscriptions and embellishments.
