WMR Reference Number: 39039
Description: Wooden triptych, with triangular pediment and hinged doors. The central panel contains a copper cross, the inscription and names in gilt lettering; the doors contain no inscription. (55 of the casualties named on the memorial had been on HM Submarine K4 when she was sunk with the loss of all hands on 31/1/1918; the other 12 casualties commemorated had died elsewhere).
Inscription: Pediment: FOR / GOD, KING & COUNTRY Central panel: GREATER LOVE HATH / NO MAN THAN THIS / (NAMES) Pedestal: TO THE PROUD AND UNDYING REMEMBRANCE OF MY HUSBAND / COMMDR DAVID DE BEAUVOIR STOCKS, RN DSO LEGION OF HONOUR / WHO WAS DROWNED JANUARY 31ST 1918 SERVING HIS KING AND COUNTRY / AND IN MEMORY OF ALL THOSE WHO DIED WITH HIM Pedestal, small copper plaque: MADE FROM THE TIMBER OF THE OLD "BRITANNIA"/ NAVAL CADET TRAINING SHIP DARTMOUTH/ 1869-1900./ D DE B STOCKS CADET 1899-1900.
