    Description
    A rectangular yellow painted plaque within a polished alabaster architectural double depth fram in four pieces, two sides, a top and a bottom. The latter is cracked. The frame has crossette corners to accommodate four veined grey stone cabochons, and a plaited inner and outer frieze. The top of the frame is broken by a roundel containing an incised Chi Rho, with decorative brackets above the frame on either side of the roundel. The inscription panel has a border of alternating black and red enamel parallelograms. In each corner is a defined square containing either a painted rose, thistle, shamrock or leek, the symbols of the countries of the United Kingdom. The names listed are in two columns separated by a decorative incised vertical line in red enamel.

    NEAR THIS CHURCH AND HALLOWED GROUND IS PLACED A CROSS OF STONE / IN GRATEFUL AND DEVOUT REMEMBRANCE OF THE BRAVE MEN FROM THE PARISHES / OF BAYFORD AND BRICKENDON RURAL, WHO IN THE GREAT WAR OF 1914-19 GAVE THEIR / LIVES FOR KING AND COUNTRY, AND SAVED OUR PEACEFUL HOMES FROM CRUEL INVASION. / THEY RETURNED NOT AGAIN TO US, BUT HERE THEIR NAMES ARE INSCRIBED TO BE / HONOURED FOR EVERMORE/ (Names)/ LET THOSE WHO COME AFTER SEE TO IT THAT THEIR NAMES ARE NOT FORGOTTEN
