- Description
- Gothic Style Chapel Building with a sandstone dedication plaque. This has a small cross on each side of the first sentence, The lettering is carved in a sunken panel using elaborate capitals. Inside the building, the eight stone pillars have the inward facing sides inscribed with the names of those who died from both wars. These are in alphabetical order from the NW pillar proceeding clockwise to the SW pillar. 97 steps, one for each of the WW1 fallen. Beside these steps is an explanatory stone tablet. They were originally made of old wooden railway sleepers, replaced with concrete after WW2 and refurbished in 2006. One of the WW1 casualties was the war poet, William Noel Hodgson.
