    Description
Granite memorial constructed with a brick supporting wall behind. The original Memorial consisted of four bays with columns between and a Cross of Sacrifice at the centre, beneath a Gothic canopy surmounted by a castellated semi-circular carved drum which rose above the memorial and had an ogee arched central section revealing the upper section of the cross. The dates of the conflict were carved on protruding sections of the canopy above the outer names panels, which are of polished black granite with gilded incised lettering. A biblical text was carved in a frieze above the panels. Following the Second World War the structure was adapted to accommodate the names of the fallen of that conflict. This was achieved by adding a bay of similar materials and proportions to the left and right of the originals, with the outer frame sections being moved accordingly. The dates of the conflict were carved above the two names panels. The memorial is set within a small garden, with hedging to the sides and rear and, at the front a brick wall surmounted by castellated granite coping stones, to most of which brass plaques are attached carrying the white enamelled names of units in which the fallen served. At the centre of the garden shaped box hiding forms a Celtic cross surrounded by a path, on the front sections of which are two wooden benches bearing incised brass dedication plaques. To the left of the memorial sits a stone of remembrance to the fallen of post-1945 conflicts (WMR 58896).
