    Description
"The Brightlingsea Tiles". Encircling the Nave, is a wall mounted frieze of over 200 separate memorial tiles, each displaying the name of a Parishioner who was lost at sea either in peace time or during World War hostilities. The vicar, Reverend A. Pertwee started the collection in 1883, assisted by William Stammers and Arthur Blyth. Rev. Pertwee subsequently added tiles dating from the commencement of his incumbency in 1872. The collection is continued by his successors. The tiles are square and vary in presentation, background colour and lettering styles. Above and spanning all of the tiles is a linear inscription.
