    Description
    RECTANGULAR INSCRIPTION TABLET WITH THE LETTERING IN ROMAN CAPS OF VARYING SIZE AND LOWER CASE. THE BADGE OF THE YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY, A GOLD BUGLE SURROUNDING A WHITE ROSE ALL ABOVE A RIBBON SCROLL BEARING THE WORDS 'YORKSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY' IN GOLD, IS PLACED IN THE TOP LEFT HAND CORNER OF THE INSCRIPTION PANEL. THE TABLET IS BORDERED BY A FRAME CONSISTING OF ROWS (FROM THE INSIDE) OF YELLOW, GREEN AND BLUE TESSERAE. THE WHOLE IS SET IN A POLISHED BROWN MARBLE FRAME MOULDED IN AN EXAGGERATED QUIRKED-OGEE AND 5.8 CM WIDE. THE SCULPTORS, NAMES ARE 'SIGNED' IN RED ON THE GREEN BORDER IN THE LOWER RIGHT HAND CORNER OF THE TABLET.

    SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF/ 2ND LIEUTENANT/ JOHN ALFRED ARNOTT FOUNTAIN,/ KILLED VERY GALLANTLY LEADING HIS MEN/ IN THE BATTLE OF THE SOMME JULY 1ST 1916/ FOR GOD, KING AND COUNTRY./ "May light perpetual shine upon him and may he rest in peace."
