- TO/ THE HONOUR/ AND GLORY OF GOD/ AND TO THE MEMORY OF/ MAJOR JOHN KEMP COOKE/ WHO AFTER SERVING IN THE/ SOUTH AFRICAN WAR IN 1900, 1901/ DIED ON ACTIVE MILITARY SERVICE/ ON THE 25TH JULY 1915 AGED 36/ ALSO OF CAPTAIN CHARLES TAYLOR COOKE LLB/ WHO WAS KILLED IN ACTION/ IN THE SOULA BAY EXPEDITION/ ON THE 10TH AUGUST 1915 AGED 33./ THESE GALLANT OFFICERS OF THE 17TH CHESHIRE REGIMENT/ RESIDED AT CROSSFIELD HOUSE, OVER/ AND WORSHIPPED IN THIS CHURCH./ THEY BOTH GAVE THER LIVES IN/ DEFENCE OF THEIR KING/ AND COUNTRY IN THE/ PRESENT TERRIBLE/ EUROPEAN WAR/ 1914-1918/ WHO STANDS IF ENGLAND FAIL/ WHO DIES IF ENGLAND HIDE
