    Maintenance History
When the memorial was originally unveiled on 22 December 1921 it was set over a stone fireplace and had an elaborate stone carving, made up of wreathes, leaves, human figures and coat of arms, surrounding the whole panel. This surround seems to have been abandoned when 42 St Andrew Square was completely rebuilt in 1940s. Only the central panel with the names was retained and was positioned in the reception area of the new building. At a later date, probably in 1954, when the bank's Second World War memorial was erected (Our ref. 5621) the panel was remade, retaining the same wording, materials and style, but displaying the names in one column rather than the previous two.
