2017: As a result of a funding campaign launched by the Mayor of Cromer in 2014 which raised £45000, Cromer Town Council was able to appoint Cliveden Conservation to restore the memorial including replacing the 5 carved figures which had become very eroded, and to add the names of Cromer residents who died in WW2 and subsequent wars. Jem Hobbs restored the figures using Ancaster stone. 2003: Memorial was conserved. Works included repairs to the stone, repointing joints, re-cutting lettering and cleaning. 2002: The stone of has become weathered due to the maritime climate. As a result, some names and a small part of the dedicatory inscription have become less legible. The figure of St George has lost much of its detailing. The cross shaft has areas of deterioration to the left and right hand sides (facing from front) where the stone has weathered in a striated pattern. There are also some open joints and some evidence of cracks forming which appear to be mostly affecting the first two vertical sections of the shaft. Date unknown: Cement repairs carried out to some joints and around the niches containing the figures on the plinth. Repirs also carried out on some of the service personnel including to the neck of the soldier. It is believed this work was done to repair damage caused by vandalism. 1942: Slightly damaged by bomb blast as result of enemy raid on town.
