    Stone obelisk set on a plinth with stone scrolls at each corner. The whole is set on two steps. Names are listed on each face of the plinth in black lettering.

WOMEN'S RESPONSIBILITIES. The unveiling the Gamrie and Gardenstown War Memorial took place on Sunday afternoon. The first part consisted service the church, where the officiating clergymen were the Rev. D. W. M'Lean, B.D., Gamrie Parish Church; the Rev. William Ross, M.A., United Free Church; and the Rev. Charles M'Arthur, M.A., Gardenstown Parish Church, who gave the dedicatory prayer at the unveiling ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. J. S. Ewen, B.D., ex-chaplain of the Forces, formerly minister of from 1915 to 1919, and now minister of Monquhitter. The praise was led Mr William Chalmers - all the choirs of the various churches being combined. Miss Littlejohn was organist, and the conclusion of the service in the church played the Dead March in "Saul." After the service the congregation adjourned to the churchyard, where the monument is erected. It consists of a square base suitable foundation, surmounted by an obelisk 16 feet high. The memorial is of Persley granite, and the design by M'Millan, architect, Aberdeen. The Committee raised £600, and it is intended to enclose the monument with a suitable railing. Names of the Fallen. The following is the inscription on the memorial: - "In memory of the men of the parish of Gamrie who laid down their lives for their country in the great European war, 1914- 1919. "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his iife for his friends." (names) ….. After the dedicatory prayer, the "Last Post" was sounded by Bugler Watt. Three wreaths were laid the foot of the monument - one by the parish, and one each by Alexandrina Hendry, Gardenstown, and Margaret Mitchell, granddaughter of Mr Cowie, Cushnie, both of whom lost a father and two uncles.
