    Description
Set of three panels that comprise the WW1 Roll of Honour. The glazed-framed first panel, depicting St George in armour, holding the scroll bearing the names of the Fallen, was erected in May/June 1917, at which time it listed the names of 32 casualties. As the war continued, the names of further casualties were added to that panel until it was full; two further panels were subsequently added to accommodate the names of additional casualties. (Of the three panels that were removed their original site in the 1970s, two later came to light in Horsham Museum in 2013. As the original third panel did not resurface, a research team from Storrington and District Museum created a replacement for it, using casualty data from photos, local press reports, military records etc).

Mrs Powell and her sister Miss Petre, of Mulberry House, gifted the first panel of the Roll of Honour to the village in 1917. It had been created by local artist Paul Hardy, and depicted the armoured figure of St George holding the scroll bearing the names.
    Maintenance History
2013: Two of the original three panels came to light and were transferred to Storrington and District Museum, where they were restored. A research team from Storrington and District Museum constructed a replacement for the missing third panel, using data from other records. Those three panels are now in Storrington and District Museum. (In 2014 two duplicate sets of the three-panel memorial were made: on 11/11/2014 one set was erected on the outer wall of the White Horse in High Street, Storrington, i.e. where the original panels had once hung; the other set was placed in St Mary's Church, Storrington)./ 1970s: All three original panels were taken down during the redecoration of the wall of the Assembly Rooms, and were taken to Horsham Museum.

    • West Sussex Gazette 19/11/2014 (https://www.westsussextoday.co.uk/news/roll-of-honour-restored-to-original-site-1-6424827 ). Detailed report of the rediscovery of two of the original panels of the Roll of Honour at Horsham Museum in 2013, and the research that had been done by Storrington and District Museum to recreate the original third panel (which was lost in the 1970s). The report stated that the original Roll of Honour panels are at Storrington and District Museum, and that duplicate sets of them had been erected at both on the outer wall of the White Horse Hotel and an inner wall at St Mary's Church in Storrington.
