WMR Reference Number: 61625
Description: A tall limestone tablet (similar in style to a gravestone) fixed to the internal west wall of the south abutment. The top has an outline of swirls, at the head is a design in relief, comprising a gilded crown above crossed rifles with gilded bayonets superimposed on a Botonee cross and flanked by laurel sprays. The incised inscription is in sentence case gilded lettering, with the names in block capitals; the final line of the inscription is set within a gilt-incised ribbon-scroll. [The memorial hangs immediately beneath the parish WW1 Roll of Honour, details of which are in our separate record WMR/ 97950].
Inscription: To the Glory of God/ and/ In Honour of our Soldier Boys/ Who Died in the Great War/ To serve the right & destroy the wrong/ (Names)/ Their Name Liveth for Evermore

Maintenance History: 13 September 1967: Church listed Grade II*, Heritage List for England reference 1109692. The church lies within the Shirley Conservation Area.
