    Description
    Three-stepped, rough-hewn base surmounted by plinth and figure of a soldier standing with head bowed and arms reversed. The soldier is depicted in service dress with helmet and pack. Behind him is carved a tree stump.

    12 o'clock face: TO/ OUR GLORIOUS DEAD/ ERECTED/ BY THE INHABITANTS/ OF BARGOED AND GILFACH/ TO THE MEMORY OF THE/ MEN OF THIS DISTRICT/ WHO FELL IN THE/ GREAT WARS/ "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE."/ "YN ANGOF/ NI CHANT FOD"/ 1914 - 1918/ 1939 - 1945/ 3 o'clock face: (WW1 and WW2 names)/ 6 o'clock face: BARGOED WAR MEMORIAL WAS CONSTRUCTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION./ IT WAS FIRST LOCATED AT HANBURY SQUARE/ AND WAS UNVEILED IN JUNE 1923./ THE MEMORIAL WAS RELOCATED IN THE 1960'S TO BARGOED PARK./ SUBSEQUENTLY IT WAS MOVED TO IT'S CURRENT POSITION WITHIN THE GROUNDS OF ST GWLADY'S CHURCH/ ON THE 11TH NOVEMBER 2007./ 9 o'clock face: (WW1 and WW2 names)

    2005: The names of the fallen from both wars were added. The memorial had not listed them up until then. 2002: Following a series of acts of vandalism the memorial was moved to its new site outside the church at the request of the Royal British Legion. The move took place as part of the local council's refurbishment of the shopping area. The memorial was restored during the move. c 2000: Memorial was subjected to a series of acts of vandalism, the nature of which is unknown.
