    Description
    Large obelisk with gabled apex. Beneath this is an ogee-headed moulded niche with crocketed finial and flanking decorative pilasters. Inside is a Sculpted figure of Christ on the Cross. Moulded base and low, coped walls in front of monument, the rear wall of which, flanking the obelisk, bears the names of those commemorated on panels. Elevated roadside site reached by 8 steps.

    On obelisk: TO THE PRAISE OF GOD / AND THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE MEN / OF THE PARISH OF HAWARDEN / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES / FOR THEIR COUNTRY IN THE CAUSE/ OF RIGHTEOUSNESS AND FREEDOM / A.D. 1914 - 1919 / THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE On base of obelisk: THIS MEMORIAL / HAS BEEN ERECTED BY / SUBSCRIBERS IN THE PARISH / OF HAWARDEN AND COMMITTED / BY THEM TO THE CUSTODY OF / THE PARISH COUNCIL, TO BE / PRESERVED INVIOLATE IN / PERPETUAL REMEMBRANCE / OF THE DEAD WHOSE NAMES / ARE RECORDED THEREON. / IT WAS UNVEILED BY / HENRY N.     Maintenance History
    Extensively restored between 1987 and 1988 at an estimated cost of £2,000. Restoration work included: grinding down all names and smoothing out the surface; cover lettering with black enamel to make letters more defined and increase longevity in future; clean sandstone surfaces and any defects on figure casued by corrosion; all joints toveraked and repointed.
