- Erected by Charles Stacey (late 160463 Sapper, Royal Engineers) and Alfred Stacey (late 855 Private, West Somerset Yeomanry and 295116 Somerset Light Infantry) , two brothers who served and who built the house in which front garden the memorial stands. In November 2018 a member of the family still lives in the house whose deeds mention the shell.
A third brother, Wallace, was killed in 1917 and is buried at Gaza (31541 Shoeing Smith, Warwickshire Yeomanry)

Firstly, we had to have approval from Historic England, who are the listing body responsible for the memorial. After much communication, we were finally given the all-clear to proceed with the works required. The listed items are both the Shell, and the plinth upon which it is mounted. The plaster surrounding the base of the Shell had become loose, as water had penetrated underneath it. This came off easily by hand, with only a small section requiring gentle persuasion. The new plaster was replaced in line with the marks on the plinth, where the original plaster had been laid. Repairs to missing parts of the plinth as well as the capping on the surrounding wall, were attended to. The shell itself was washed, primed and painted the same colour as it was found, a matt silver. The name plate of the front of the shell had the inscription re-painted, as it had become unreadable. The surround walls, which belong to the property, had the plaster removed, as it was falling off. The bricks and the entire Memorial were then cleaned.
The bricks have been re-pointed and sealed, and undergrowth around the plinth has been cut back, to have the Memorial looking more like it was, when it was first erected.
No part of this project could have been achieved, without the effort and work put in by
Mr Pete Stacey, Mr Gary and Mrs Jackie (Stacey) Martin, all direct descendants of those who erected
the Memorial, who gave freely of their time and skill, to complete the job.
