Land given, and hall built and presented by Major Nathaniel Clayton Cockburn BA JP DL, Lord of the Manor and principal landowner. Furnished by public subscription. Lincolnshire Chronicle 1920 "Harmston is doing something for the returned men. We find, as we should have expected , that this is on a considerable scale. Mr Cockburn was interested in the desire of the villagers to fix up a hut for the men, and his share of the preparation is the actual gift of the hut, which the parish for its part, would furnish. Moreover, Mr Cockburn gives the site and pays the whole expense of building. This is not the case where a previously existing hut is being used, but the hut is specially made in Lincoln, and among other features is to have a special floor for dancing. It will be used for dances, concert meetings and all the lighter side required for the men and their friends"
