Type of Memorial: Pillar / Column
WMR Reference Number: 7741
Description: Rough hewn monolith with an angled, notched top, mounted on a two stepped base on a paved area within a formal garden with brick walls to sides and rear. Inset Latin cross positioned on upper front face. The dedication and Names are on inset polished panels towards the bottom of the memorial: WWI dedication is on the 6 o'clock face, with the Names A to K on the 3 o'clock face and Names K to W, together with a Korean War dedication, on the 9 o'clock face. The WW2 dates and Names B to G are inscribed on the 6 o'clock face of the top step, with the Names G to O on the 3 o'clock face, and the Names P to W, together with a post-war inscription on the 9 o'clock face. The inscriptions are incised and blacked. Said to be the largest single granite block ever quarried in the UK
