WMR Reference Number: 7800
Description: Column surmounted by orb and small Latin cross set atop a square plinth and cruciform base. Crescent moon and star on west face. Raised inscription and names on bronze plaques set into sides of plinth with a separate, engraved brass plaque for the Afghanistan casualty set below the WW2 names. WW1 and WW2 duration years incised on the stonework above respective plaques. Year numerals and spacer dashes infilled with black paint.
Inscription: 6 o'clock face: IN HUMBLE GRATITUDE / TO ALMIGHTY GOD / WHO GRANTED US / VICTORY / AND IN LOVING MEMORY / OF THE MEN OF THIS / TOWN WHO FELL / IN THE GREAT WARS / 1914 - 1919 and 1939 - 1945 // 3 and 9 o'clock faces: 1914 - 1918 / (NAMES) // 12 o'clock face: 1939 - 1945 / (NAMES) / Afghanistan 2002-2016 / (1 NAME)
