Description
Framed Roll of Honour (depicting the figure of Britannia holding a trident, with a lion crouching at her feet), mounted on a circular base bearing a brass plate inscribed "Blyth Post Office". In November 1917 "The staff's tribute to their colleagues" was reported to be currently on display in Waterloo Road. The teak frame had a small brass plaque attached, indicating that the timber was from the former Navy cadet training ship HMS Britannia.
Inscription
Exact wording unknown, but was described as being the Blyth Post Office staff's "tribute to their colleagues". A small brass plaque was attached to a circular base, inscribed "Blyth Post Office". The frame (which stood on that base) bore a small brass plaque indicating that the teak from which it was made was from the former Navy cadet ship HMS Britannia. The Roll of Honour itself was reported to list the names of 15 former staff "who have made the supreme sacrifice". (This was apparently a typo, as a brass plaque commissioned after the War recorded that only 3 former Blyth Post Office staff had died - see WMR 33543).
